From the SS1 exit Giuncarico

We are best reached from the SS1 (E80) exit Giuncarico. Leave the SS1 at GIUNCARICO (this is the following exit after FOLLONICA) and follow the signposting for GIUNCARICO. Within a few meters, you should reach a small roundabout. Turn left again for Giuncarico. Just after turning in the country lane you cannot miss the blue roadsign SP27 LUPO. Only a few meters from the sign, turn right into the first dirt track you encounter. This is the dirt track leading up the hill to Poggio Pelliccia. Turn left again at the signposting for Poggio Pelliccia.

From Pisa Airport

Pisa Galileo Galilei is the nearest and most comfortable airport to us. We recommend you hire a car from there, as the Tuscan countryside is difficult to sightsee without one. You can pick up cars from the airport.

From Pisa follow the signs for the motorways (green signpostings) and take the E80 towards ROSIGNANO/ROMA/LIVORNO. After around 40 KM you will merge into the SS1. Carry on for 70 KM until you reach the exit Giuncarico. Follow now the directions in the From the SS1 exit Giuncarico section.

Poggio - Pisa: Follow the signs for the SS1 to Livorno but make sure you take the Exit for the Motorway Genova/Pisa/Livorno/Firenze at Rosignano (A few kilometers before Livorno). You will pay some toll (approx 2 Euros) but you will save the congestion of Livorno and save a good half an hour on your journey. Follow the signs for Pisa and then for Pisa Aeroporto.

From Rome

You can reach us also through Rome Ciampino or Fiumicino Airports. Rome Ciampino is smaller and quicker, however public transport is more difficult. We recommend you hire a car. If you do, from Ciampino follow the signs for the GRA (Grande Raccordo Anulare) and follow the signs for Civitavecchia/Fiumicino Aeroporto and whe signposted exit at exits no 30-31-32-33. Proceed for exit 30 for Civitavecchia/Fiumicino. Keep following the signs directing you to Civitaveccia. Proceed for around 50 KM. At some stage you will go through the toll station (Euro 3). After the toll station follow for the E80/SS1 Aurelia and then for SS1 Grosseto. Before reaching Grosseto you will see exits for : Isola Giglio, Saturnia, Manciano di Toscana, Montaino, go past Grosseto and in around 25 Km you will get to Giuncarico exit. Follow the directions in the From the SS1 exit Giuncarico section. Please note: from Rome you might notice sign postings for SS1 to Grosseto. Unless you do intentionally want to go through towns and villages, avoid this route.

From Fiumicino. Follow the motorway signs to Civitavecchia (try to avoid the local route signposted with the blue sign SS1) and proceed until you are on the motorway to Civitavecchia.Proceed for around 50 KM. Unless you intentionally want to go through towns and villages, avoid this route.

By train

You can reach us also by train. The nearest train stations are Grosseto and Gavorrano (countryside station). Grosseto is a very busy train station and all traffic to and from the north including plenty of IC trains reach Grosseto. Grosseto is one of the main stations on the Rome/South line. Gavorrano is a local station and only regional trains stop here. From both stations you should arrange for a taxi or a car to pick you up. Check www.bahn.de or www.trenitalia.com sites for train time connections.

Tips for a happier journey

Car hire: it is recommended you hire a car, especially if you are arriving in the evening. If you want to hire a car in Grosseto and avoid the Rome traffic, you can reach a station in Rome and reach us by train. Remember however, Rome can be rather chaotic.

If you are arriving in the evening in Pisa, and you have not eaten yet, we recommend you have something before closing time. Remember some restaurants and pizzerias may have last orders at 9:30. This may be earlier in the countryside. Quick meals can be found also at a MCDonald at Pisa central station or at Spizzico, where you can have a decent piece of pizza and a drink for a few Euros. Pisa has also a few pizzerias near the central station which serve good pizzas and are open pretty late too.
