Shiatsu is a form of Japanese Physiotherapy with its origins in oriental
medicine which involves the application of both pressure and stretching
techniques. Shiatsu literally means "finger pressure", however
during treatment the practitioner may also use thumbs, elbows or knees.
Shiatsu
aims to help the individual with their healing process and self development.
It
holistic, regarding disease and symptoms as manifestations of imbalance
in vital energy. Shiatsu seeks to address the underlying causes of a condition,
working with the body's energy by applying pressure to meridian lines
in the body. Health improvement is promoted by working with body energy
- Ki, which runs though the meridians - a network of elector magnetic
channels running through the body.
