The Tuscan Maremma is very rich in Etruscan remains and archaeological parks. Below, you will find listed some of the finest sites, which are traces of history left by this ancient population, which was active and prospering in this area before the Romans came to power and eventually exterminated them.

The list of resorts and parks you will find on this site has the aim of providing a general introduction and starting point to the traveller who comes in this area. For more details information on any other centre of arch logical interest you can refer to more specialised literature. Good sightseeing material will be provided in all major foreign languages in the Archaeological Parks, which will also offer some insight to the life of this great culture.

Poggio Pelliccia is integral part of the Vetulonian Archaeological Park and testifies life, prosperity and economic growth of the Province around Vetulonia around the year of its use, between VII and V B.C.

Adjacent the property is the archeologically significant Etruscan tomb named after the Property. Considered part of the Vetulonian Etruscan archaeological park, the tomb is currently open for visit to tourists and guests. Poggio Pelliccia is an important discovery in that it testifies how economically lively the rural area around Vetulonia was compared to its major centre Vetulonia, helping to reconstruct moments of life of a civilisation in most parts still very much unknown.

The tomb of Poggio Pelliccia dates from VII B.C. and appears to have been used until mid V century BC by a family of aristocratic origins . The tomb was discovered in 1972, unfortunately very much looted. The remains found in the tomb and the ornaments which are now kept in the Archaeological Museum in Florence, helped reconstructing its origins.

Vetulonia (15-20 minutes drive) One of the great Etruscan centres in Maremma, reached its zenith during VII century (check) B.C. It is famous for its necropolis and especially the stunning tombs of Pietrera and Diavolino are proof of its wealth and prosperity during this period. A visit to the Vetulonian archaeological parks and the above mentioned tombs are recommended.

Roselle. Roselle is one of the most comprehensive and well preserved parks in the Maremma. Through its remains it manages to show some of the life of the Etruscan life and culture, some of which still remains unknown to us. It comprises wonderfully preserved walls, a forum area, amphitheatre, baths area and cemeteries. For anyone interested in this type of sightseeing and visits, Roselle is a sightseeing event which is not to be missed.
